Summer Meals for Students – Info

Eastern Howard School Corporation will not be providing meals this summer. Here is how to find alternatives:

USDA

USDA meal programs for children operate all summer! To find the nearest summer meal site, call 211 or text ‘Summer Meals’ (English) or ‘Verano’ (Spanish) to 914-342-7744. You can also view an interactive summer meal site finder here.

Households in need of assistance any time of the year can call the USDA National Hunger Hotline at 866-3-HUNGRY to speak with a representative who will find resources, such as summer meal sites, food banks, and other nearby social services.

You can find these resources by texting the word FOOD to 304-304 or visit NoKidHungry.org/help to find free meals in your neighborhood.

SUN Bucks (Summer EBT)

What is SUN Bucks?

SUN Bucks is a new permanent program to provide money to households with school-aged children to purchase food during the summer. All students are able to apply, but some students are automatically qualified for the program.

Who qualifies for SUN Bucks? 

Students approved for free or reduced meals at any point during the school year. 

(Unless the household opted out of benefits or benefits were removed due to verification.) 

Students approved through the SUN Bucks application during the summer.

What are the benefits? 

Eligible households will receive one card for each eligible student in the household.

Each card will be loaded with the full $120 benefit.

The money can be spent on the same items that SNAP dollars can be spent on.

Prior to May 31st, 2024 applications may be submitted through the food service area inside of Skyward. After May 31st, please visit the link below to submit an application directly to the state.

FCC Emergency Broadband Benefit

Beginning May 12, 2021, eligible households will be able to enroll in the FCC’s program to receive a monthly discount off the cost of broadband service from an approved provider. Eligible households can enroll through an approved provider or by visiting https://getemergencybroadband.org.

The FCC’s Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit is limited to one monthly service discount and one device discount per household.

Coffee and Conversation

Eastern welcomes feedback from the community. In our efforts to address community concerns and engage in meaningful conversation our superintendent, Dr. Keith Richie, has instituted monthly meetings with community members.
