Eastern High School Announcements  

 Monday, October 21, 2024

*8th grade boys basketball tryouts will be today and tomorrow. Tryouts will run from 3:30-5:30 in the fieldhouse.

*Girls wrestling practice will start today after school.

*The Comet Command capped off a successful season with a top 5 finish in the state placing 5th out of 16 finalist groups.  The color guard took home a first-place win in their caption.  It has been an amazing season of the comet command, and we can’t wait for next year!”

*The girls cross country team was incomplete in the Logansport Sectional on Saturday.  Marly Coan led the team with a season-best performance of 25:46 to place 59th.  Anna Groves finished the season with a personal-record time of 28:24. Great job, Comets!

*The boys cross country team placed 11th in the Logansport Sectional.  Obi Greene led the team with a 20th-place finish in 17:52. William Kuntz and Chase Roseberry recorded personal record times of 19:07 and 23:28, while Parker Smith-McCombs had a season-best performance of 22:30.  Obi Greene qualified for the Brownsburg Regional, where he will race next Saturday.  Congratulations, Comets!

*There will be a Sunshine Club meeting Thursday October 24, at 7:45 a.m. in Ms. Meador’s Room. Please plan to attend as we will be discussing our upcoming events.

*This is a reminder that 6th grade boys’ basketball tryouts are on Thursday from 3:30-5:00 in the Field House.  All boys must have a physical on file to participate”

*Attention Juniors and Seniors  –  A representative from Marian University-Ancilla College will be at Eastern on Monday, October 28 at 1:45.  If you would like to learn more about Marian University-Ancilla College, please sign up with Mrs. Koziel in the Guidance Office by Friday, October 25th.

*SADD club members, please check your student email for updates. Remember to meet in the cafeteria right after school on Wednesday to decorate our scarecrow. Bring whatever supplies you would like to contribute!

*8th grade boys basketball tryouts will be Monday (Oct. 21st) and Tuesday (Oct. 22nd) when we return from Fall Break. Tryouts will run from 3:30-5:30. Tryouts will be in the fieldhouse.

*Congratulations to the winners of today’s Hispanic Heritage Month trivia.  Mexico is the most populated Spanish-speaking country.

*Volleyball senior night is this Thursday the 10th. The theme for the game will be Hawaiian….we would love see the gym packed for their last home game! Any student that attended volleyball camp will get into the game free if they wear their camp shirt.

* The boys cross country team placed 6th in the Hoosier Heartland Conference meet.  Obi Greene led the team with a 2nd-place finish in 16:55. Jakob Bertoline, Chase Roseberry, and Tim Leopard recorded personal records, and Parker Smith-McCombs put in a season best time.  Obi earned All-Conference, while Jakob earned All-Conference Honorable Mention.  Congratulations, Comets!

*The girls cross country team was incomplete in the Hoosier Heartland Conference meet.  Marly Coan led the Comets with her 18th-place finish in a season-best time of 26:55.  Rhayelin Scott and Alivia Kinney also recorded season-best times.  All three girls also earned All-Conference Honorable Mention.  Great job, Comets!

*It’s Hispanic Heritage Month!  From Sept. 15-Oct. 15, we celebrate Hispanic and Latino history and culture and recognize the achievements of Hispanics and Latinos. Spanish Club is celebrating this month, and we are inviting the middle school and high school students of Eastern to participate with some trivia questions and prizes this month.

Each morning until fall break, we will ask a trivia question.  Find the answer and write it on a piece of paper with your full name and the grade you are in.  You will turn in this paper to Mrs. Larson’s room by the end of your lunch period.  At the end of the day, one name from each grade with the proper answer will be drawn for each grade level.  Those people will win a snack prize that can be picked up in Mrs. Larson’s room.  Winners will be announced at the end of the day.

Turn in your answer with your full name and grade to your shoe box in Mrs. Larson’s Room… by the end of your lunch period. Buena suerte!

*Book Fair is this week, visit the library during open hours and shop for your favorites!

*A call out meeting for the Eastern High School boys and girls bowling teams will be held on Wednesday October 2 right after the final bell in the cafeteria.  Team members are needed for boys’ and girls’ teams.  No previous bowling experience is necessary.” 

*The Eastern Key Club will be partnering with the Salvation Army in their Fall Coats for Kids drive through the end of September. Winter is just around the corner and many in our community will be in need of a warm coat. Please consider dropping off new or gently used coats, hats, scarves, or gloves in the tote outside the main office. All sizes are needed, and we appreciate your help.

*Come join us tomorrow morning September 25th at 7:40 for See you at the Pole.  We will gather to pray for our schools and country on the national school day of prayer!

*There will be a SADD club meeting today from 3:30-4pm, in the cafeteria.

*Middle School tennis practice is canceled for this evening.

*Today’s baseball open field has been postponed to tomorrow.  We will now have open fields on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

*There will be an optional powder puff practice tomorrow night from 630-730. The games Saturday will start at 6. The team with the most fans will win a free large pizza to share during the championship game. The cost to get into the game for fans will be $5.

*The High School fall Choral concert will be tomorrow @ 7:00. This year’s theme is “We Met Them in a Book”. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Tickets are $5 with reserved seating. Hope to see you at the show.

*Spell bowl practice will be Thursday this week @ 7:30 AM in Mr. Rifes room. Enter through door #21 in the morning and be ready to spell!

*The Lady Comets placed 5th overall Friday at the IHSAA girls’ Golf Sectional. Congratulations to Kaitlynne Degraaff who placed the highest as an individual Friday, advancing to the regional tournament Saturday at Battleground.

*The Comet Command traveled to Noblesville HS this weekend and captured their third straight win of the season.  This week they travel to Homestead HS for the final regular season contest before prelims.  Great Job Comet Command!

*Sunshine Club will have a meeting Wednesday September 25, 2024 at 7:45 in Ms. Meador’s room. We will be discussing the details for the Aimee Romero Memorial Cupcake 5K Run and Walk on Saturday September 28th where we will be volunteering our time to help with the walk.

*Attention Juniors and Seniors – A representative from Ball State will be at Eastern on Friday, September 27 at 9:30.  If you would like to learn more about Ball State, please sign up with Mrs. Koziel in the Guidance Office by Thursday, September 26th.

*On Saturday, the girls’ cross-country team raced in the Tipton Invitational.  Marly Coan was the Comets’ top finisher, placing 20th in 27:28–a season-best time.  Anna Groves and Jillian Johnson recorded personal records, and Rhayelin Scott also put in a season best.  Great job, Comets!
