 Eastern High School Announcements

 Monday September 18, 2023.

On Saturday, the girls cross country team placed 3rd in the Tipton Invitational.  Ava Kantz led the Comets, finishing 6th in a time of 21:09.  Alivia Kinney, Marly Coan, Destiny Hess, Rhayelin Scott, Addie Conner, and Malia Shellnut all set new personal records.  Congratulations, Comets!

On Saturday, the boys cross country team placed 5th in the Tipton Invitational.  Obi Greene led the Comets, winning the race in a personal-record time of 16:08.  William Kuntz, Amos Greene, Reagan Long, Charlie Kendall, Parker Smith-McCombs, and Royal Titus all set new personal records, while Kamp Miller and Gavin Sonafrank raced season-best times.  Congratulations, Comets!

 

The comet command traveled to Northwestern HS this weekend and competed against area schools at the Howard County contest.  The comet command won their class and swept 4 of the 6 captions. A special congratulations to Kennedy Stone and Allie Adams for being named Outstanding Drum Majors and The Golden Guard for being named outstanding class color guard.  The comet command travels to Avon HS this Saturday and performs at 11:39.  Good luck Comet Command!

 

Winter is just around the corner and many in our community will be in need of a warm coat. The Key Club will be helping out those in need by collecting Coats for Kids through September. Please drop off new or gently used coats outside of the main office or outside of Mr. Mink’s room 313.

 

A call out meeting for the Eastern High School boys and girls bowling teams will be held on Thursday September 21 right after the final bell in the cafeteria.  Team members are needed for boys’ and girls’ teams.  No previous bowling experience is necessary.” 

 

H.E.R.O.E.S. Club will hold its first meeting of the year after school on Thursday. We will meet in the Library Community Room from 3:30 to 5:00. If you are interested in joining the competitive Rocket League team, please email Mr. Johnson as soon as possible.

 

The first art club meeting will be this Thursday right after school until 4.

 

Congratulations to the girls Varsity volleyball team for winning the Eastbrook invitational on Saturday. The girls went 4-0 without dropping a single set.

 

The boy’s tennis team participated in the HHC individual tournament this weekend.  Overall Champs included Colton Lindsay and the doubles team of Jase Cloum and Jonathan Atherton.  Runner ups included Blake Farkas and the doubles team of Sam Torivo and Parker Rogers.  Both of these spots lost their finals matches in tie breakers.  At #1 singles Luke Laubenstein finished third place against strong competition.   Way to go Comets!!!

 

ATTN Seniors, Herff Jones will be here on Friday September 22^nd during homeroom to meet with seniors about cap and gown orders.

September 20 at 7:00 in the PAC. This concert will feature songs by Rock Vocal bands over the past 60 years. Ticket sales begin online September 17 at eastern.booktix.com or may be purchased at the door. All tickets are $5 and reserved seating.

The Lady Comets beat Rossville last night in an important conference game 3-2. Grace VanBibber scored a goal and had an assist. Makenna Brooks scored 2 goals. Brooklyn Brooks had an assist and Emma Budde had an assist. Ruby Sheets had one save. The Lady Comets battle at Sheridan on Monday in a decisive conference game. Go get ‘em ladies!!

The library will be hosting a checker tournament on Thursday, Sept 14 after school.  Please sign up in the library to join the tournament.  Snacks will be provided.

The Boy’s tennis team brought the HHC conference championship home when defeating Taylor by the score of 5-0 on Senior night.  It has been 20 years since the boys’ tennis team has won a conference championship, so this is a really big deal!

The Comets swept the singles without dropping a game!  Winners included Luke Laubenstein, Colton Lindsay, and Blake Farkas.

The doubles also won in straight sets dropping a total of only 5 games in the process.  Victorious were the doubles teams of Sam Torivo/Parker Rogers and Jase Cloum/J.T. Atherton.

On Saturday, the boy’s cross-country team placed 14th in the 18-team Maconaquah Invitational.  Obi Greene won the race with a 45-second personal record time of 16:19!  Jakob Bertonline, Amos Greene, Charlie Kendall, and Parker Smith-McCombs also set personal records, while Kamp Miller, Reagan Long, and Gavin Sonafrank ran season-best times.  Congratulations, Comets!

On Saturday, the girl’s cross-country team placed 11th in the 17-team Maconaquah Invitational.  Ava Kantz led the Comets with a huge 1:25 personal record to finish in 20:23 for 11th place.  Addie Conner, Marly Coan, Rhayelin Scott, and Malia Shellnut also set new PRs, while Alivia Kinney raced a season best.  Congratulations, Comets!

Girl’s golf placed 2^nd this weekend at the Conference tournament. Cora Bartrum placed 2^nd overall, Jenna Hendricks placed 9^th overall and Sophie Kretz placed 10^th overall. All 3 girls received all-conference honors. Alaina Schemehorn placed 11^th overall and Teagan Bedwell was 14^th overall with both being selected all-conference honorable mention.

Comet command traveled to Brownsburg placing 2^nd out of 5 groups. The Comet Command Missed out on 1^st place by .25 points. We travel to Northwestern this weekend. Great job to the Comet Command.

The Eastern Lady Comets beat Western last night 7-1. Brooklyn Brooks scored 3 goals with 2 assists; Makenna Brooks also scored 3 goals with 1 assist; Grace VanBibber scored a goal; and Alia Dutton had an assist. Ruby Sheets had 6 saves. Come out to watch them take on Maconaquah at home tomorrow Thursday at 5:30. Keep it up Ladies!!

Last night, the boys cross country team lost to Clinton Prairie.  Obi Greene led the Comets, placing 2nd with a time of 18:42.  Jakob Bertoline ran a season-best time of 20:58 to finish in 6th.  Royal Titus also ran a season best of 32:42.  Senior Kamp Miller recorded a time of 21:40 to place 7th.  Great job, Comets!

 

 

Last night, the girls cross country team was incomplete on Senior night against an also-incomplete Clinton Prairie squad; both teams fielded 4 runners.  Ava Kantz led the team, taking 1st place with a time of 22:06.  Addie Conner recorded a season-best 28:52 for 4th place.  Also, though it doesn’t count, if you score the meet for only 4 runners, the Comets won by a score of 16-20.  Congratulations, Comets!

On Wednesday September 6th there will be a Middle School student-led Bible study small group after school at 3:15-4:00 in Ms.Warnocks room. See Abby Foutch in 8th grade if you have questions!

 

Any club or team interested in participating in the parade needs to sign-up on the sheet in the high school office by Wednesday, September 6^th.  No participants will be allowed after September 6.

Seniors won the best class contest last night at the volleyball game. They will get 3- large pizzas at the home Volleyball game on Thursday @ 7:00.

The Freshman and Sophomores will be playing at 7:00 on Wednesday in the consolation game, followed by the Juniors and Seniors in the championship game @ 8. Hope to see everyone there!
