*SADD Club Meeting Tuesday, October 7th 3:30-4pm in the cafeteria.

*Middle school cross country practice today is canceled.

*On Monday night the Comets traveled to face Lafayette Harrison in what they knew would be a tough test.   In tennis there is no class system like there is in the other team sports, so facing #29 overall Harrison on the road would be a lofty challenge.  The Comets didn’t let it phase them and took it to the host Raiders.  Striking in straight set victories was Silas Flanary at #1 singles, Tristan Armogum at #2 singles and Max Atherton at #3 singles. The doubles would be tested!  The Harrison #1 duo is likely to be All State after season, and their senior leader was a member of the 2022 state runner up team as a freshman.  JT Atherton and Blake Farkas challenged them to a very tight first set but ran out of gas in the second set. The #2 doubles team of Blake Day and Grant Farkas were taken the distance in a 3 set thriller.  The boys were able to come out on top to remain undefeated on the season. The JV was also victorious on the night winning 4-2.  The Varsity moved to 17-3 on the season and this moved them into the #2 spot for all time number of wins.   The JV concluded their season 20-1.   The Varsity is back in action next when facing #26 Kokomo in sectional on Wednesday at 4pm.   Would love to see some Comet supporters if you are able!  Go Comets!

*Seniors- a representative from Herff Jones will be here Friday during lunch to get your cap and gown ordered.

*Middle school homework help will meet in the cafeteria after school today.

*The Comets cross country teams competed at the Culver Invitational this past Saturday. The boys were led by Jakob Bertoline with a time of 19:58 beating his previous best time on the course. Reagan Long, Samuel Thomas, and Chase Roseberry also beat their previous best times on the course.  In the girls’ race Emme Alexander took a minute off her personal best time.

*The boy’s JV tennis team hosted state power Delta last night and earned their first loss of the season.  Despite losing the Comets won 4 individual matches, had 7 matches go three sets, and tied one due to darkness.  The play level was high against strong competition and this only makes you better.  The JV team moved to 17-1 on the season and are back in action next this Saturday at the Comet Invite.

*Varsity volleyball beat Taylor last night. Mackenzie Appleton had 8 kills, 12 pts and 4 aces. Kyah Hembree had 6 kills, 12 pts and 5 aces. Josie Odle had 6 kills and 11 assists. Savannah Smith had 10 assists, 8 pts and 3 aces. Lauren Hendricks had 9 serve receptions, 6 digs, 13 pts and 7 aces.

*As we close out College Go Week, it’s no secret that paying for a college education can be expensive. So, it’s important to be educated regarding your options! Consider the following:

Grants consist of free money—often from the federal or state government—that you don’t have to pay back. Student eligibility is based on financial need and is determined by filling out the FAFSA each year.

Scholarships, another source of free money for your education, are applied for.

Many are offered through your selected college while others are offered through private donors and community foundations. Did you know that an estimated $100 million dollars in scholarships go unused every year?

Be a working student. Many students put themselves through college by working a part-time job or working on campus through the federal Work-Study program.

Universities typically offer pay-as-you go plans, so installments can be made as you earn money. Of course, student loans are available but should be a last resort. Money can be borrowed to attend college, but remember, it must always be paid back—and with interest.

Have you given any thought to your future path?

*As we think of our future during College Go Week, the military may be a factor in the path you’re considering. Did you know that military members are more highly educated than the general population? Those who enlist are required to have a high school diploma or a GED. That means 99% of the military has a high school education while only 60% of the general population has earned a high school education. If you are thinking about the military, consider that currently only about 23% of young Americans meet the core eligibility requirements which include factors such as good physical & mental health, a foundational education, and a clean record of moral conduct. Have you given any thought to your future path?
