 Eastern High School Announcements

Fall on into the library for the reading program.  Pick up your BINGO card and start reading to earn prizes.   Don’t delay, this program only runs through Sept. 22.

Attention Juniors and Seniors – A representative from Purdue University will be at Eastern on Friday, September 15 at 8:30.  If you would like to learn more about Purdue University, please sign up with Mrs. Koziel in the Guidance Office by the end of the day.

Any students interested in participating in Key Club this year, our first meeting will be held this Friday morning at 7:30AM in Mr. Mink’s room. Please contact Mr. Mink if unable to come.

The High School Fall Choral Concert, “ROCK ON” will be held Wednesday,

September 20 at 7:00 in the PAC. This concert will feature songs by Rock Vocal bands over the past 60 years. Ticket sales begin online September 17 at eastern.booktix.com or may be purchased at the door. All tickets are $5 and reserved seating.

The library will be hosting a checker tournament on Thursday, Sept 14 after school.  Please sign up in the library to join the tournament.  Snacks will be provided.

The Boy’s tennis team brought the HHC conference championship home when defeating Taylor by the score of 5-0 on Senior night.  It has been 20 years since the boys’ tennis team has won a conference championship, so this is a really big deal!

The Comets swept the singles without dropping a game!  Winners included Luke Laubenstein, Colton Lindsay, and Blake Farkas.

The doubles also won in straight sets dropping a total of only 5 games in the process.  Victorious were the doubles teams of Sam Torivo/Parker Rogers and Jase Cloum/J.T. Atherton.

On Saturday, the boy’s cross-country team placed 14th in the 18-team Maconaquah Invitational.  Obi Greene won the race with a 45-second personal record time of 16:19!  Jakob Bertonline, Amos Greene, Charlie Kendall, and Parker Smith-McCombs also set personal records, while Kamp Miller, Reagan Long, and Gavin Sonafrank ran season-best times.  Congratulations, Comets!

On Saturday, the girl’s cross-country team placed 11th in the 17-team Maconaquah Invitational.  Ava Kantz led the Comets with a huge 1:25 personal record to finish in 20:23 for 11th place.  Addie Conner, Marly Coan, Rhayelin Scott, and Malia Shellnut also set new PRs, while Alivia Kinney raced a season best.  Congratulations, Comets!

Girl’s golf placed 2nd this weekend at the Conference tournament. Cora Bartrum placed 2nd overall, Jenna Hendricks placed 9th overall and Sophie Kretz placed 10th overall. All 3 girls received all-conference honors. Alaina Schemehorn placed 11th overall and Teagan Bedwell was 14th overall with both being selected all-conference honorable mention.

Comet command traveled to Brownsburg placing 2nd out of 5 groups. The Comet Command Missed out on 1st place by .25 points. We travel to Northwestern this weekend. Great job to the Comet Command.

The Eastern Lady Comets beat Western last night 7-1. Brooklyn Brooks scored 3 goals with 2 assists; Makenna Brooks also scored 3 goals with 1 assist; Grace VanBibber scored a goal; and Alia Dutton had an assist. Ruby Sheets had 6 saves. Come out to watch them take on Maconaquah at home tomorrow Thursday at 5:30. Keep it up Ladies!!

Last night, the boys cross country team lost to Clinton Prairie.  Obi Greene led the Comets, placing 2nd with a time of 18:42.  Jakob Bertoline ran a season-best time of 20:58 to finish in 6th.  Royal Titus also ran a season best of 32:42.  Senior Kamp Miller recorded a time of 21:40 to place 7th.  Great job, Comets!

 

 

Last night, the girls cross country team was incomplete on Senior night against an also-incomplete Clinton Prairie squad; both teams fielded 4 runners.  Ava Kantz led the team, taking 1st place with a time of 22:06.  Addie Conner recorded a season-best 28:52 for 4th place.  Also, though it doesn’t count, if you score the meet for only 4 runners, the Comets won by a score of 16-20.  Congratulations, Comets!

Seniors won the best class contest last night at the volleyball game. They will get 3- large pizzas at the home Volleyball game on Thursday @ 7:00.

The Freshman and Sophomores will be playing at 7:00 on Wednesday in the consolation game, followed by the Juniors and Seniors in the championship game @ 8. Hope to see everyone there!

   Wednesday August 30, 2023.

There will be a high school boys and girls wrestling call out, Friday, Sept. 1st right after school in the cafeteria.

 

The First boys’ Volleyball game will be Monday @ 6. Freshman will play the juniors. 7 o’clock will be sophomores vs. seniors. Admission is $5 to get in. Come cheer on your class!

 

“Last evening, the girls’ golf team scored a 1st places finish defeating Western, Southwood, and Peru. Cora Bertram lead the way with a 43, Teagan Bedwell fired a 49, Alaina Schemehorn carded a 51 and Sophie Kretz added a 52 with Jenna Hendricks scoring a 57 . Great job to these girls on a solid team win”.

 

The Lady Comets played hard last night at Mississinewa but fell short by one goal off a corner kick. The team continues to improve – dominating on defense by only giving up one goal in 3 games and persisting in the offensive attack by securing more shots on goal. They play again next Tuesday September 5th at Western. Go Comets!

     Wednesday August 30, 2023.

 

“There will be a high school softball callout meeting today at 3:30 in the library conference room.”

 

All juniors are welcome to help decorate your class float for the parade. Decorating will take place on Wednesday, August 30 at Marly Coan’s house from 6-8 pm. If you help decorate the float, you are welcome to ride during the parade.

The Lady Comets defeated conference rival Tri Central last night 7-0. Grace VanBibber had a hat trick and two assists. Lily Green scored two goals. Brooklyn Brooks had two assists. Jade Secrease and Makenna Brooks each scored a goal. Julia Salkie had one assist. And goalie Ruby Sheets had 4 saves. Shoutout to the defensive end who haven’t given up a goal in two straight games! They play again tonight at Mississinewa. Great job Lady Comets keep up the great work!!
